Non linear mechanical and geometrical analysis of bridges

VALUE ENGINEERING

In the next list, we provide some examples of value engineering provided in different Canadian projects:

Design adapted to constructability
Optimization of Geotechnical Parameters in Toronto Soils.
Expansive rocks analysis (GBS) and their impact in Tunnels Design
Advantage of the reduction in the Hydrostatic Pressure Law
Usage of Temporary Support of Excavation as part of the Permanent Structure
Significant reduction on steel reinforcement
Reduction of tie-backs, struts,…
Knowledge of Canadian Codes and Metrolinx-TTC Design Manuals for the optimization of: Crack width Analysis, Geotechnical Design….
Optimization of Monitoring and Instrumentation Plan

INDEPENDENT CHECKING OF PROJECTS

Our professional and economic independence allows us to offer this service to the level required by each customer:

Independent Checking of Projects

Checking of Construction Procedures

Checking of temporary elements for bridge and viaduct construction:
falseworks
movable formwork
temporary supports during construction
Form travellers
Launching Gantries
Launching Noses

SEISMIC ENGINEERING

Our Team is able to develop the following technical services in the field of the geotechnical seismic engineering:
Deterministic seismic hazard analysis (DSHA).
Probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA).
Synthetic accelerograms generation from a response design spectrum.
Ground response analysis – seismic wave propagation.
Liquefaction potential analysis.
Slope stability analysis under dynamic conditions.
Retaining walls design under dynamic conditions.
Foundations design under dynamic conditions.
Tunnel lining design under dynamic conditions.
Design of vibration damping foundations in industrial installations.
For those analyses both analytic and numerical methods (with Plaxis 2D, Plaxis 3D and Flac 3D codes) are used.

Our structural team is able to develop next seismic analysis:
Response spectrum analysis
Linear dynamic analysis
Nonlinear static analysis
Nonlinear dynamic analysis

For those analyses SAP2000 software is used.

STRUCTURAL ASSESSMENT AND RETROFITTING OF BRIDGES

Our engineers have experience in structural assessment and retrofitting of bridges.

Structural Assessment of existing bridges and viaducts of any material and time of construction
Rehabilitation Projects
Bridge and viaduct repair projects
Strengthening of bridges, viaducts and other important structures

CONDITION EVALUATION & INSPECTION OF BRIDGES

The condition evaluation and inspection of bridges comprise next activities:

Conduct visual inspections
Inspection guides and fact sheets
Inspectors training
Indirect inspections of bridges by means of dynamic load tests

SANITARY LANDFILLS

Our engineers have experience in sanitary landfills analysis and design.

We have dealt with problems associated with settlements in long term due to the secondary consolidation, sanitary landfill global stability and leaching products.

We have developed tridimensional geomechanical models of high-complexity geometry.

THM MODELLING

Our geotechnical team has wide experience in Thermo-Hydro- Mechanical (THM) analyses. This technique is aimed to model soil behaviour under unsaturated conditions and thermal effects and has been used in studies related with nuclear waste disposal (deep geological concept). Nowadays, we are using this technique in

ALBEPAV research project to model the THM behaviour of the pavement.
A part of our technical staff has taken part in numerical modelling of FEBEX (Full-Scale Engineered Barriers Experiment) which took part in Grimsel (Switzerland).

SLOPES AND LANDSIDES

EWE+ partners has a relevant experience in slopes and landslides.

We have dealt with problems related with slopes stability, wedges stability in tunnels and rock foundations design both in Civil and Mining Engineering.

HARBOUR ENGINEERING

EWE + partners has extensive experience in the Geotechnical and Structural Design and Supervision of Harbour Projects around the world including Canada .

We have experience designing in the most stringent conditions as: Heavy seismic zones, liquefaction conditions,…

Use of advanced geotechnical survey information, as well as enhanced geotechnical design methods has allowed obtaining competitive designs which improve previous engineering solutions.
